The core of our gynecology practice is preventive or “Well Woman” care. The majority of patients see us annually for a check-up, which consists of a comprehensive review and update of overall health status, a full exam, a discussion of any findings, routine lab tests, referrals for other services, and recommendations for health maintenance.
Some patients equate a “check-up” with having a Pap smear, but as outlined above, it is much more than that. The guidelines for Pap testing have recently changed, and, in most cases, it is not necessary to have a Pap smear every year. However, it is still important to have regular visits for preventive health care. Most insurance plans cover a yearly “Well Woman” exam, usually without a co-pay (check with your insurance carrier, as some use the calendar year and some use a 12 month cycle).
In addition to preventive care, we evaluate and treat both established and new patients for a full spectrum of gynecologic problems, including infections, irregular bleeding, abnormal pap smears, polyps, fibroids, and cysts. Minor procedures, such as biopsies, treatment for abnormal pap smears, and IUD insertions, are done in the office. We perform minimally invasive and major surgeries at Mount Sinai Hospital.
At Lexington OB/GYN, we work as a team to guide you through this special time, providing continuous and complete care, from pregnancy confirmation to the birth of your baby, and beyond to the post partum period. We offer a full range of obstetrics services, including ultrasound (sonogram), genetic testing, and fetal monitoring, for both low and moderate risk pregnancies. We work together with maternal fetal medicine consultants to provide expert treatment for high-risk obstetric cases.
You select one doctor in our practice as your primary obstetrician, who will see you monthly. You will meet each of the other physicians in the group, usually in the last 3 months of pregnancy, when visits are more frequent. The obstetricians share on-call coverage, so someone from the practice is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for deliveries and emergencies. The doctor who is scheduled to be on-call at the time of your baby’s birth will be the one to deliver you.
Our primary goal is a healthy pregnancy for both mother and baby, while doing our best to enable you to have the experience you desire. To this end, we provide expert, individualized, and personalized care throughout this normal life process. If there is a need for medical intervention, we keep you informed, listen to your concerns, and answer your questions. Ultimately, it is your decision, and we support you in your choices for prenatal testing and treatment as well as for labor and delivery – whether you desire natural childbirth or an epidural.
